Union Station Masterplan

LAB has been deeply involved over the past five years in the planning and design process for the transformation of Washington Union Station. The project includes full reconstruction of the rail infrastructure serving the station and development of three million square feet of air rights structures over the terminal. The project was awarded a national AIA Honor Award for Urban Design and Planning in 2014. 

 

Our work has included:

• formulation of the original planning and design program; 

• management of design and planning consultants;

• public presentation of project concepts;

• authoring design scopes for master planning and individual project implementation; management of construction feasibility consultants; 

• formulation of project phases and sub-phases and development of master program schedule;

• development of existing conditions documentation including full LIDAR scanning of the historic structure; 

• formulation of project Building Information Modeling scope and requirements
